Urbania Sailing Team Fights for Victory at the Conde de Godó Trophy Despite Breakage
The Urbania Sailing Team narrowly missed victory at the 52nd Conde de Godó Trophy, which concluded this afternoon in Barcelona waters, due to a breakage on board.
The final day of the competition saw two races held in optimal conditions. In the first race of the day, a 5.8-nautical-mile windward-leeward course, Urbania showcased its speed, crossing the finish line in first position. However, after time compensation, victory went to the Lisa R, relegating Urbania to second place.
The second race was not as favorable for the team. A breakage in the tack of the genoa sail reduced the boat’s speed, and they could only finish in fourth position.
Ultimately, the Urbania Sailing Team completed the podium in third place, behind Blue Carbón and Lisa R.
Iñaki Castañer, Urbania’s tactician, commented: “Today’s first race result demonstrates the boat’s potential, but the genoa breakage during the first upwind leg of the second race cost us the chance to fight for overall victory.”
Despite the outcome, the team is already focused on their next goal: the Loro Piana Giraglia, a prestigious offshore regatta in the Mediterranean.
